An eruption occurred at Lokon volcano, Indonesia on 1st May 2012. The eruption occurred at 11:55 am, local time and was accompanied by ashfall over a radius of 2.5 km from Tompaluan crater.

Indonesia Earthquake
A great earthquake (magnitude 8.6) hit off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia on 11th April 2012. The epicentre was 434 km SW of Banda Aceh, and the focus was at a depth of 22 km. A tsunami warning was issued for countries surrounding the Indian Ocean. Earthquakes of this magnitude have the potential to affect volcanoes within a 700 km radius. This includes Toba, Sinabung, and Sibayak. A magnitude 8.2 aftershock occurred 2 hours after the great earthquake.

Mt Etna Volcano, Italy
A paroxysm occurred at SE crater of Mt Etna volcano on 18th March 2012. This was the 22nd paroxysm in a series which began in January 2011. The eruption consisted of a lava fountain with steam and tephra several kilometres high. Lava flowed into the Valle del Bove. The paroxysm lasted 2 hours.
